2017 marks another milestone in the journey of The Clothing Exchange as we expand our events and, even more importantly, our message, around the nation. In June, Hobartian and long-time follower of The Clothing Exchange, Susannah Slatter jumped at the change to join the team and bring our swapping concept to her home state.
The swap was held at the iconic Salamanca Arts Centre in October and drew a very excited crowd of women. They were keen to find out more about how the swap works (many were happy to donate more than the minimum six items) and celebrate their personal style at the same time. The Clothing Exchange’s National Co-ordinator Kristen Fredericks made the trip especially from Sydney to help launch the event and ensure its success.
And a success it was! A combination of beautiful weather, fabulous clothes and champagne made for very happy swappers, all of whom were happy to provide new homes for highly valued clothing. As you can see from the photos if was a beautiful event and word has quickly spread with more events being requested for 2018.
A big thank you to Susannah for coming on board, not to mention the team of devoted volunteers without whom there wouldn’t have been any event. Your efforts are keeping clothing out of landfill and helping to make the world a better place.
Any leftover garments were bundled up for the Australian Red Cross who raise funds for their charitable endeavours and we look forward to many more events in future.
